Wedding Wednesday: The Dance

The dance went by faster than any part of our whole wedding day.  I had a blast enjoying our reception space, including an outdoor patio and escaping to the photo booth.  There was a moment where I did get a little angry with my new husband because I could barely catch him long enough to enjoy our reception with me, the whole reason he was there!
My only wish would have been that the night would have lasted twice as long.  I had so much fun.
Our first dance to 'I Won't Give Up' by Jason Mraz.  Even though Sar pointed out before the wedding that it was written about a break up, I still love it and it was perfect.
Also-I love Pete's grandma in the wheelchair watching us-so cute.

I was really not super in to having a father-daughter and mother-son dance.  My family is really not touchy-feely lovey-dovey like Pete's family is (um please refer to our family speeches where Pete's family did all the talking and crying) and so I was a little uncomfortable.  So we compromised and combined the two in to one dance.  And actually it was nice for our guests who didn't have to watch a million boring dances.
So for our 'Parent' dance, we used the Glee version of 'Forever Young'

and then the party started.
Gangam style did not exist in August, but I brought back the Spice Girls.  One of my favorite moments was dancing to Jump On It.

Next was the bouquet toss, which of course was done to Beyonce's 'Single Ladies'

And then the garter toss, which Pete didn't believe me when I said he had to use his teeth.
However, he did cheat and just pretended to use his teeth and really just used his hands.
We did this to some rock song I didn't know.  While it was happening my mom walks by singing the words and I remember thinking 'What The?!?'

We had a hard time getting any guys out there.

Yes, that would be my Grandpa with a glow necklace on his head who ran in and caught the garter.
He gave it back to me and said I had to promise to wear it on our first wedding anniversary.  It was so cute it didn't even matter that I got a set of 2 garters so that I could keep one and throw one.

We had such a blast spending the best day of our lives with all the people we loved so much.  I was bummed that the wedding party went out afterwards without us but I knew I was not going to wear my beautiful wedding dress out to a stinky bar.
So Pete & I went back to our hotel room and inhaled some powdered donuts which was actually just perfect. And sexy.

  1. Haha! Love that last line. Great pics! We did the mother/son father/daughter dance at the same time too. Just worked better for us, I guess. Love Pete's grandma watching too! So cute!

  2. I love that you guys inhaled powdered donuts back in your hotel room! That's so funny. Nobody tells you how exhausted you're going to be on your wedding night, so I'm sure the donuts were much needed! One of my friends ordered pizza on hers and I was so jealous that I never thought of that!

  9. Eh that song might be about a break up but its still true that one shouldn't give up in a marriage either!! Our first dance was Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight" It was perfect!

  11. Haha-- looks like such a blast!! We only had three single guys (one of which was my brother...), so we didn't do a garter toss. But I do love the idea of the combined parent dance. (Although like you, my dad and I wanted a fun song to keep things light, while Donny and his mom wanted something more sentimental.)

  16. I'm totally sorry for being a jerk and pointing out the song was originally written for a break-up, because it's PERFECT and WONDERFUL just like you. Also, I heard it today and thought of you. Bonus points for always being on my mind?! ;)
