Probably the fastest part of the whole wedding was the reception. I didn't get a limo or party bus (I really wanted a trolley!) to drive around after the ceremony with our wedding party. I paid for a beautiful reception and I wanted to enjoy it with our guests! So we all went straight there to enjoy drinks and appetizers (I WISH I got to eat more!!)

Bride's eye view.
I wasn't in to pairing each guy and girl in our wedding party because we were uneven, and also because I think it's a bit silly. So I let the girls and the guys each enter the reception as a group and do whatever they wanted.
We walked in to Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO.
After a little mingling and starting dinner, Pete & I cut the cake and had a short moment to enjoy some dessert. Because I didn't get any the rest of the night ;)
Our cake was from Buttercream Cakes and I don't even remember what flavors we had! It was some sort of layered lemon-raspberry thing..and it was yum!
The guests were treated to four different flavors of cupcakes. I worried the entire week before about ordering more cupcakes-we were going to feed our family and wedding party the wedding cake, and we had one cupcake for each person ordered. With some people that didn't show up, we should have had enough for everyone, but seriously-people took more than one cupcake and some people got none. It was crazy.
Grandpa Don said a prayer before dinner.
My mom decided the day or so before that she wanted to pull a 'My Best Friend's Wedding' and instead of a nice speech to their first daughter to get married, they sang 'say a little prayer for you'..and it was not very good haha.
Pete's family loves to cry. So although it wasn't planned at all, Pete's dad Bill gave a very sweet speech.
Then Pete's brother Andy (best man) gave an amazing speech as well.
Orrin enjoyed his cupcake :)
My maid of honor Michelle had us do the shoe game, where she asked questions about us as a couple (who is more likely to spend/save, who has the crazier family, etc) and we were back to back and used eachother's shoe to give the answer. It ended up being really funny and cute.
and there were lots of kisses :)
After we (barely) ate, the party started!
You won't be sorry---the speeches can be seen here: http://www.weddingsmn.com/ortman

CUTE! We had no speeches or games or anything at our reception! Love that y'all did. I didn't make my bridal party pair up either - i always hated that as a bridesmaid haha.

Such a beautiful wedding!
ReplyDeleteThe cake is gorgeous! Stinks you didn't have enough cupcakes but at least you didn't have to take home a ton of leftovers? ;)

ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous!! I just LOVE the shoe game!! I'm totally doing that for one of my girlfriends at her rehearsal dinner...it's SO fun!!
ReplyDeleteEverything is simply beautiful-- the room, the flowers, the cake, the couple. Love it! (And ps-- what's with people taking more than one thing?? We did cookie favors, and even with more cookies than guests, we ran out b/c people took multiples!)
